For many, Cedar Park is the ideal home for many different reasons.

The History of Cedar Park, Texas

The history of human settlements in the Cedar Park area goes back several thousand years as there is evidence that the Lipan Apache, Tonkawa and Comanche tribes were in this part of the country dating back to roughly 5,000 BC.

With the arrival of European settlers, the area was first settled by George and Harriet Cluck in 1873 that had purchased the land with a spring known as “Running Brushy” and started the community. A decade later the Austin & Northwest Railroad which connected the state capitol with cities to the north passed through the area which then began to grow. Originally named “Bruggerhoff”, it was changed shortly afterward to Cedar Park in 1887.

For the next century the town grew modestly until the 1950s when the nearby city of Austin began growing subdivisions that reached into the town and it began to grow as well. By 1973, the town had become incorporated and a library was soon built afterwards.

The City Government

In addition to incorporation, the city of Cedar Park, Texas also formed a government as well which consisted of a Mayor and City Council. Currently, the council consists of six members who serve two-year terms and have staggered election cycles.

The city is also represented in the Texas House of Representatives and the State Senate as well, holding a single position within each body. Overall, the incorporation of the city has allowed it far better representation and responsiveness to the needs of their people.

The Environment & the Attractions

Cedar Park enjoys a moderate to warm climate typical of central Texas. Mild winters and warm to hot summers are commonplace with a few extremes depending on the conditions. In 1997, the city suffered from a major tornado strike that was part of the outbreak of over 20 tornados in the region that day. While the town was severely damaged, it has since been rebuilt with no reminders of that devastating day.

The town enjoys having two top minor league professional teams is baseball and the NBA, making it an attractive place to live for sports fans. Plus, there is a major public skate park as well which offers plenty of things to do for the community.

For the townsfolk of Cedar Park, Texas, they live in a beautiful part of the country that offers all the attractions of small town living while sitting next to one of the most attractive large cities in Texas.
